Small meeting in Dresden

During last Saturday serge and our old user Catalin has a very calm and cheerful meeting in Dresden, Germany. Catalin is sand collector and he is our most active forum member. He has suggested a lot of improvements and remarks how our custom collectible feature in the CollectionStudio software can be more powerful, customizable and to be most suitable for particular collectibles. We have implemented his ideas, with only one remark – each feature should be suitable for any kind of collectible. That's why right now you can track collection of any type within CollectionStudio.

During this meeting in Dresden we have discussed following existing features and upcoming in nearest feature extensions:

  • CollectionStudio Online feature;
  • Using notebook camera for barcode scanning;
  • GPS coordinate and map pointing;
  • Map zooming feature;
  • Customizability vs. usability;
  • Different collectible types;
  • Exchange of discrete materials and “duplicate” field usage;
  • New services for collectors.

Unfortunately, we had not so much time to discuss more and more but we hope it was not our last personal meeting.

German Vampire Note

I was quite curious about this whole ‘German Vampire Banknote’ thing, so I decided to do some research. I found that picks 70, 71, and 72, which feature a male portrait by Albrecht Durer are all considered to be German Vampire Banknotes. When looking at the picture some people see a vampire sucking on the neck of the young man. This has been interpreted by some as a representation of the French sucking the blood of the Germans through the reparations of World War I. I have tried to show this in the image below:

Volkswagen "banknote"

To continue our subject about "what we can do more with paper money and coins", we can say: banknotes are cheap and effective advertising area.

In times of financial crisis all people want to save money, including big companies such as Volkswagen AG. They had to announce that Volkswagen offers the perfect car: Volkswagen BlueMotion vehicles need little fuel for little money. How did they this? They just stamped a route on Euro banknotes. It showed how far you’ll drive with a BlueMotion for the Banknote’s value. 5,000 modified banknotes were put to circulation by daily money transfers of Volkswagen dealers and Volkswagen Service shops.

To visualize how far for how less you get they used the medium with the highest relevance for their target group: The Euro banknote itself. With a smart trick they turned it into a unique advertising space for free. With a little investment into stamps we got the attention of more than 50,000 people. After three weeks the click rate on www.bluemotion.de increased by 14%.
