I am not a registered user, but I absolutely guarantee I will register when (if) this feature gets implemented. I spend real money every year on software, but have NO use for your great software, if it can't do this:
I have several hundred PDF documents and need to catalog them onto a central index. Your great software would do the job VERY well, as the central index.
Basically what I have is a huge collection of TV and Radio documentaries on various high capacity drives that are all attached to my machine. For each documentary, there is also a PDF or DOC description... I don't need to scan/index the text within the PDF, as in software like 'diskMETA-Personal' (although this would also be a great feature for oneday!), but I DO need to execute the PDF or DOC from within the search results of Collection Studio. In the same way as the HTML links will execute Internet Explorer, I need Acrobat to execute for the PDF and Word to execute for the DOC results.
So, as a final example... If I go searching for BBC Africa 2007 ... I will see all the BBC dcoumentaries made about Africa in the year 2007 - and be able to execute a full PDF or DOC description that is held in the relevant folder on my machine. I believe this suggested feature is so HOT that you could sell this software to many media organisations as soon as they know about this feature.
Thank you for reading this...
Glen

I'm not a developer of this software (just a user), but I think you need something else. Collection studio seems not suitable for your taks at current moment.
Have you tried "Google Desktop Search"? It is indexing DOC and PDF files without any problems. But I'm unsure about removable media.
In any case this feature looks very nice but I'm unsure that it will be implemented. Let's wait for answer from developers! :)

Well, the simple request that I described is this:
"to execute local links on local machine (such as PDF and DOC), in the same way that it (Collection Studio) currently executes HTML internet links." It doesn't sound too difficult to me...
I also wait for a reply from the developers of this great software...

[/quote]Thank you for your interest in our software and for your suggestions.
Currently we can guarantee that additional tab "Attaches" within Edit dialog will be added in the next release (which will work like "Images" tab - you will be able to insert some files and add some links to external files). We found this feature as a good step in the next enhancement of the CollectionStudio.
Of course, you will be able to use search tools for this data (provided in the "Attach edit" dialog, like in "Image Edit" or "Link Edit" dialog).
But we don't plan to create search in external documents (such as doc, pdf etc). May be in long term there will be something, but we sure that reading external binary formats is complex, hard implemented and hard supported task.
