Да, такая функциональность давно реализована. Для веса по отдельным металам - нужно установить использовать поля с типом "Вес" и "Материал". Их можно настроить в далоге настроек коллекции:

Затем в статистике по материалам вы увидите дополнительную колонку - Вес, где и сможете узнать сколько по весу и количеству у вас экспонатов данных материалов.

In order to disable update of the years in the countries list you could uncheck - Update list of countries in the Settings window.

для данного объема фотографий, будет лучше всего воспользоваться функцией прилинковки изображения к экспонату, вместо вставки самого изображения. Это даст высокую скорость загрузки данных и сохранения, а так же фозможность работы с изображениями напрямую, используя любой из доступных у вас на компьютере графический редактор.

Так же будет удобна работа со съемными носителями: если указанный файл изрображения не найден, то автоматически будет осуществел его поиск по всем дискам с тем же самым путем: Исходный (ненайденный) файл: F:\Мои экспонаты\Экспонат10001.jpg. Поиск будет осуществлен только для доступа к следующим файлам:

A:\Мои экспонаты\Экспонат10001.jpg
B:\Мои экспонаты\Экспонат10001.jpg
C:\Мои экспонаты\Экспонат10001.jpg
D:\Мои экспонаты\Экспонат10001.jpg
и т.д.

Это очень удобно, при распозновании вашей флешки на другом компьютере под различными именами дисков.

1) Добавит пароль именно на запуск программы, а не на саму коллекцию

Для повышения безопасности, мы рекомендуем использовать программы по шифрованию дисков, такие как PGPDisk, TrueCrypt, Jetico BestCrypt, VeraCrypt. Лично мне нравится старенький TrueCrypt — компьютерная программа для шифрования «на лету» для 32- и 64-разрядных операционных систем семейств Microsoft Windows. Она позволяет создавать виртуальный зашифрованный логический диск, хранящийся в виде файла. С помощью TrueCrypt также можно полностью шифровать раздел жёсткого диска или иного носителя информации, такой как флоппи-диск или USB флеш-память. Все сохранённые данные в томе TrueCrypt полностью шифруются, включая имена файлов и каталогов. Смонтированный том TrueCrypt подобен обычному логическому диску, поэтому с ним можно работать с помощью обычных утилит проверки и дефрагментации файловой системы.

2) В карте стран при наведении добавить описание/название страны (можно кол-во банкнот)

Отличное предложение. Действительно интерактивности для карты явно уже не хватает. Будем думать, как это реализовать в ближайших версиях.

3) При добавлении стран из программы добавить возможность делать ссылку на её флаг

Для уже встроенных в программу флагов, можно добать неограниченое количество ассоциированных стран. Для этого необходимо их перечислить в специальном файле - <директория установки>/Flags/EnglishCountryFlags.ini

Возможности по добавлению флагов у нас нет. Данная возможность у нас висит к добавлению в более низком приоритете, нежели добавление новых статистических выборок, над которыми мы работаем сейчас.

настройка пользовательских полей сохранятеся в каждом файле коллекции автоматически при сохранении коллекции. Функциональность по сохранению пользовательских полей нужна для создания к примеру второй коллекции с теми же самыми полями, что и в первой, без ручного ввода заново одной и той же информации о структуре экспоната.

Поле "номинал" (face value), начиная с версии CS 4.66, - пользовательское поле, которое настривается в опциях вашей коллекции, см. Настройка коллекции: поля. Там вы можете указать необходимый вам перевод данного поля.

To add territories for already existing country into the database with assigned flag, you could easily modify following file in the install directory:

Flags\EnglishCountryFlags.ini

Just add new entry for each territory of the corresponding country. For example, when we want to see British flag for Northern Ireland, we should modify following section:

Похоже пришло время для пересмотра данной функциональности с нашими ключами запуска программы. С одной стороны открывать два диалога при запуске "новая коллекция" и "опции" как бы не хорошо, но с другой - не все новички знают, где можно и можно ли вообще изменить список полей, поэтому при загрузке коллекции или страте программы мы всегда показываем диалог опций с открытой вкладкой "поля", если в коллекции нет экспонатов.

Скачайте последнюю версию. Описанные вами проблемы уже решены.

Деинсталируйте программу и потом установите последнюю версию, т.е. CollectionStudio 4.67. Проблема будет решена. ПС. "вспыхнет и исчезает" - такая проблема возникает только у пользователей, которые используют скажем так "альтернативные ключи" регистрации вместо официальных!!!

Да с релизом мы немного затагиваем. Но новая версия уже почти готова. Она будет содеражть полный переход к настраиваемым коллекциям, таким образом в нашей программе не будет "стандартных" типов коллекция. Вместо этого будет расширенные возможности по работе со структурой коллекции. Так же в новой версии будут дополнительные поля: период, дата (с неопределенным точным значениеи, например для одной монеты вы можете указать год, для другой только столетие а для третей число-месяц-год), различные разделители, и конечно же новые статистики.

Приемущество перед нашими конкурентами - это возможность настраивать свою уникальную коллекцию. Ведь мы собираем не только монеты, но и много другое

Currently you can save any view of you collection in several database/data-sheet formats for further processing in external tools.

Before import in this case you should use any text editor and "Find and replace" tool in it. if it is CSV file, enter into "find" field: ",€" and into "replace" - ", ". In this case each euro sign will disappear. Than you can import file as you did before, with specifying this column as price. In the settings window place "Euro" sign as default currency.

We also think about this possibility. The main page of the collectible edit should, I would say, must contain primary image of the collectible. But for this of course we need to make some additional workaround (new type of field to show/hide this info, an additional flag for images etc). Hope, not in the next but in the up coming later version we will develop this functionality.

According to our plans next version will contain an expandable set of pre-created collection configurations which can be easily adjusted by users. All "standard" collection types will be automatically converted into custom collection, and therefore there will be no "standard" collections and no custom collections. Only totally customizable collections. Now, we are working on new data types for customizable collection, that any standard collection can be converted into custom without any lost of already made functionality (modification of the data, statistics view etc)

Как временный вариант, вы можете переименовать "No empty fields.html" файл на "1 - No empty fields.html", который находится в папке инсталляции CollectionStudio. Данная функциональность уже реализована в новой версии CollectionStudio 3.66: теперь все цены можно указывать в произвольных валютах, а результат будет всегда выводиться в установленной глобально пользователем в настройках валюте, с автоматической конверсией.

Контейнеры в первую очередь призваны для группирования экспонатов как внутри коллекции, так и для добавления списков экспонатов не входящие в коллекцию (экспонаты на продаже, дубликаты, желаемые и т.д.). Конечно в последующем можно как то завернуть функционал для реализации иерархичности контейнеров, но пока этого у нас нет.

Генералов отчетов в нашей программе как таковой пока не реализован. Но в ней есть такая замечательная функция как фильтр списка, который можно применить к любому виду вашей коллекции. Получившийся отфильтрованный список можно сохранить в отдельный файл в различных форматах или для него запустить экспорт экспонатов. Далее вы можете распечатать файл удобным для вас способом.

Платная версия не содержит дополнительных функций нежели чем установленная у вас триальная версия. В установленной у вас версии доступны все функции программы. Так вы можете досконально изучить программу перед ее покупкой.

Thank you for the proposal. Currently we are working on the new features - that every "standard" collectible will be custom, it means that you will be able to add unlimited number of collectible fields into your collection. This feature is planned for CS 3.66.

In next versions, maybe we will expand this functionlity for other objects: currency, country, quality level and contacts; but for this objects we think it is enouth to have just 5 custom fields, or let's make them 10?!

Начну с того что методом тыка я установил что изменения нужно делать не в папке /collectible/, а в папке custom.

Очень похоже, что вы используете очень старую версию, а не CollectionStudio 3.64?!

Как правильно изменить размер отображаемого шрифта?

Для этого выбранные текст обрамляем в теги <font size="3" color="red" face="verdana">мой текст</font>. Вместо 3, ред и верадана подставляем нужные вам значения. Например цвет можно задать как rgb(x,x,x) или #xxxxxx. http://www.seoded.ru/beginner/html/text.html - сдесь можно найти описание первых шагов в редактировании HTML файла и наиболее часто используемые теги для форматирования текста и их атрибуты.

Как отредактировать отображаемое название шаблона вывода экспоната, которое расположено в начале файла?

Соответственно, "Мой специфический вид экспоната" будет отображено в меню, а "Выбрать мой специфический вид экспоната" в статус баре при выборе данного вида в меню.

Разъясните еще для чего существует поле SQL – field? И в каких целях его используют.

Данное значение используется при экспорте в SQL файл, который используется для создание таблиц баз данных, и переноса данных в БД. Данное поле нужно для того что бы вы могли указать свои поля, которые вы используете во внешнийх базах данных. Возможножно мы удалим данное поле в последующих версиях, оставив только XML-tag, как единственное уникальное имя поля.

В программе есть такая функция, как отобразить при помощи… и варианты отображения. Очень хотелось бы, чтобы появилось еще одно значение.

Отобразить при помощи настраиваемых полей. Т.е. я хочу видеть только те поля, которые я сам отметил в списке.

Такая функциональность уже существует!

Для это идем в папку, где установлена CollectionStudio, и там в папке "/viewtemplates/collectible/" создаем копию "All fields.html" файла. Открываем его редакторром текстовых файлов и видим:

Спасибо за замечание. Мы в основном используем небольшие изображения для экспонатов в целях минимизации используемого пространства и ускорения работы программы. Но это не повод не улусшать работу с изображениями.

Мы добавили еще два алгоритма уменьшения размера изображения: Bicubic interpolation и Bilinear interpolation к используемому сейчас алгоритму Nearest pixel. Bilinear interpolation дает максимальное качество поэтому и был установлен по умолчанию. Изменить алгоритм можно будет через системные настройки.

Таким образом в Collection Studio 3.65 будет решена данная проблема.

Спасибо за предложение. Нам будет очень интересен ваш вариант множества необходимых полей для филократии (область коллекционирования, изучения и систематизации открыток).

В текущих версиях CollectionStudio мы больше не планируем добавления новых стандартных типов коллекций, так как планируем полный переход к настраиваемой коллекции для всех типов коллекций, включая монеты, банкноты, марки и т.д., т.е. для всех уже реализованных в программе типов коллекций. Вместо этого пользователю будет предлагаться выбор среди конфигураций коллекций, путем выбора того или иного набора предустановленных характеристик. Это уже можно делать и сейчас но в уже созданной коллекции:

Используйте кнопки "Загрузить", "Сохранить" для работы со структурой коллекций.

К сожалению данная функциональность не вынесена на диалог создания новой коллекции - но это дело времени.

(Диалог открытия/создания коллекции будет пересмотрен уже в ближайшии версии)

С другой стороны мы пока не собрали достаточного количества типов коллекций, что бы включать их в пакет инсталяции, для дальнейшего выбора пользователем (основная причина, выбо конфигурации сейчас слишком мутный и не понятный для многих пользователей).

Нам важно, что бы не мы как разработчики добавляли конфигурации коллекций. а иммено пользователи, так как они являются более профессиональными в тех или иных областях коллекционирования, чем мы, программисты.

Данная проблема связана только с отображением данных поля "комментарии" в статическом виде (без возможности редактирования), соответственно реальные пользовательские данные не будут ни в коем случае потеряны. С другой стороны, так как эта проблема очень сильно портит отображение данных в основных окнах программы, мы постараемся выпустить новую версию в конце января.

Спасибо за ваше детальное и структурированное описание недочетов нашей программы. Все пункты будут проработаны в ближайшее время.

Что же касается пункта 1 "неудобно загружать фотографии в описание объекта": на таб "Изображения" можно перетаскивать одно или несколько изображений с других программ, например с Проводника, где вы и как раз можете выбрать несколько изображений за раз.

Пунтк 4 "что бы просмотреть следующую картинку, нужно переходить к другому объекту, а потом обратно возвращаться к предыдущему": для перехода к предыдущему виду от увеличенного изображения достаточно нажать кнопку "Backspace".

Пункт 3 и 6 уже реализованы в версии 3.64.

К сожалению, такой функции мы еще не добавили. В ближайших версиях мы добавим:

• Поддержка контейнеров
• Поддержка экспорта в различные форматы
• Импорт из XML
• И только потом полностью автоматизированую синхронизацию программы CollectionStudio с онлайн версией

Надеемся вся новая функциональность в онлайн версии, будет доступна уже в начале следующего года, т.е. в течении одного двух месяцев.

It is not clear for us, what do you mean. From one side you can use import tool where you can import the file which consists of only one collectible. From another side, CollectionStudio has rather user friendly collectible Edit dialog, which allows you modify all collectible characteristics...

К сожалению осенью 2010-го года мы так и не добавили Юникод в программу. Будем стараться перейти полностью на Юникод в ближайшее время, т.к. это современная технология работы с пользовательскими данными. Приносим свои извинения за существующие временные неудобства.

Мы еще раз проверили работу дублирования экспоната, и нашли в ней ошибку, заключающуюся в том, что во время активной сортировки по произвольному полю (всех, кроме как по порядку) - дублирование срабатывает корректно для выбранного экспоната, но вот фокус устанавливается некорректно - всегда выбирается последний экспонат в списке (а при сортировке не по порядку, это означает, что выбирается произвольный экспонат). Данная ошибка будет исправлена уже в текущей версии - Collection Studio 3.64.

Работа дублирования экспоната работает следующим образом:

• Создается полная копия выбранного экспоната в списке;
• Этот новый экспонат помещается в конец списка;
• Фокус в списке устанавливается на последний экспонат, т.е. на новый, который был создан во время дублирования.

То, что был создан новый экспонат, вы можете легко заметить благодаря полю "количество экспонатов", которое всегда пишется в правой стороне Информационной панели, или внизу в статус баре, во время просмотра списка экспонатов. Во время дублирования - оно увеличивается на единицу.

So, today, we have released a new version of the Collection Studio - CollectionStudio 3.63. It contains fixes about problem you have described here. Hope it was not so big delay in tracking of your collectibles using CollectionStudio!

I tried to add new items or change info of an item already there the program goes berserk.

Does the same problem occur when you attempt to add new items in the completely new collection?

It will be very good if you have attached some screen shots for columns and lists.

The first idea, it seems that you have not uninstalled correctly previous version and just installed the newer one. The same properties in the systems may not correspond between several versions.

The second idea, it seems you have selected English.lng file as interface language, but the program cannot find it, and it draws not strings (they all comes from lng files or from the application only when "English (built in)" is selected). So, check this option too. Check if your language file is near 25 kbytes.

This functionality is in development right now. We hope it will be ready in CS version 3.61, where one way connection (CS -> online CS) will be ready. Later we will develop backward connection (online CS <- CS). Currently you can use CS online in mode when you manually add new collectibles.

Yes, you can use our CollectionStudio software for tracking postcards using custom collectible feature, where you can specify all required for your collection fields including GPS coordinate. This GPS coordinate is used in functionality to open specified location for postcard in Google or in Yahoo maps.

Moreover you can specify correctly country and use build-in map view with continent detailing.

Yes, you can track your books, magazines, news paper collection using our CollectionStudio software.

For this you can go using two ways:

• use standard "book" collectible
• or use custom collectible feature.

This option you can select during creation of the new collection.

The difference between them are that standard "book" collectible has already predefined list of fields for book characteristics. In the second way you should specify our own characteristics (for example, year, author, title, edition, number of pages, cover type etc)

The second way is more flexible.

Для прикрепления фотографий можно воспользоваться двумя способами:

1. Вставлять сам файл в коллекцию (используя страницу "Изображения" на диалоге редактирования экспоната; При этом необходимо нажимать кнопку "Добавить изображение".)

2. Или же создавать ссылку на изображение. При этом сам файл изображения будет храниться отдельно от самой коллекции (файла с расширением *.col); Для этого необходимо нажать кнопку "Добавить сслыку" в той же закладке "Изображения" на диалоге редактирования экспоната.

Выбор способа добавления изображения осуществляется при нажатии кнопки со стрелочкой.

Воспользуйтесь функцией копирования текста из письма. Во введенных данных не должно быть лишних пробелов, перевода строки и каких либо знаков пунктуации. Имя должно быть на английском языке, как вы вводили его во время покупки:

We have updated CollectionStudio Online service. Now you can add, modify and manage your collectibles for each collection attached to your collectionstudio.com account. Also, you can manage all fields which are used as characteristics of your collectible. All is done using simple manage toolbar.

Hello, Rodrigo. Unfortunately we cannot say exactly when CollectionStudio will be available on Max OS.

But, we have released a beta version of the CollectionStudio Online, which will be the same product but for web. You can already try this beta version from your account on collectionstudio.com.

Ans what is planned future for that application?

The main feature which will be released in the end of this October - is a Collection Studio Online web service. With single click you will be able to upload your collection from CollectionStudio application directly to our collectionstudio.com web account. There you will be able to manage collectibles, add new, see summary statistics, manage access right for your visitors etc. We hope that it will be very useful for mobile devices and for convenient remote access to your collection from world wide. Later with new versions of the Collection Studio Online it will became a completely self-sufficient web application to manage collectibles online (using mobile devices or from Mac).

What's about CollectionStudio, we will make a next step in management of custom collectibles: there you will be able to setup not only fields (i.e. characteristics of the collectible) but also an appearance of the "Collectible Edit" dialog: fields order, fields group and grouping using tab pages. Then there we will be no "standard" collectibles as they exist right now - there will be only a set of predefined structures: custom structure for coins, banknotes, postage stamps and other. The list will be expanded time to time according our users' collections.

It's the main aims for next releases for our development team. Of course, small improvements in usability, in expanding and enhancing of the statistics or collectible management sections will be never stopped.

The "online CS management", how did you say, is rather big functionality which consist of two main parts:

1. Placement (submit) of all collectibles in collection on the net using collectionstudio.com user account.This functionality is activated using "Synchronize" button from CollectionStudio application for any container in your collection tree. This functionality was already released in current version CS 3.59. But this functionality works only in one way, it transfers data just from CollectionStudio application to web account. The back transfer will be supported in the next version, allowing saving your online changes in your off-line collection list.

2. The second part is complete online collection management. It will allow your create new catalogs/listings, add/modify/delete collectibles, attach/view images and so on. Yes, it will became a 100% online version of the Collection Studio. But right now, we can provide just listing of your collection, which was submit in advance using "Synchronize" button.

So, we expect, that in this autumn, our users will be able to manage their collections not only in offline mode, but separately and independently online.

Is there a way to "add" countries to continents?

In your case, we can add a new map, say "United Kingdom" with division on "England", "Wales", "Scotland" and "Northern Ireland". In the same way, we can add political map of United States as well. But where we should take the data for the statistics, in "country" field or in "regional" field?! It seems without any programming this feature can not be completed... we need good solution for both ways of usage.

With my collection I have items from England, Wales, Scotland etc rather than Great Britain as a whole. When I click on the Statistics by Continent options I would like items from these countried to appear, unfortunately as they are not logged under "Great Britain" they do not.

The solution can be: use "Great Britain" value in country field, and set "England", "Wales", "Scotland" etc into "Regional" field.

Is there a way to "add" countries to continents?

Relations (such as "Preceded by", "Succeeded by", "Consist of" etc) between countries are not jet implemented but planned.

Вы подняли интересную тему. Контейнер "Юбилейные монеты" следует располагать в дереве коллекции в основной ветке "Моя коллекция". Но тут получается следующий нюанс: в данной под-ветке все контейнеры являются непосредственным хранилищем экспонатов, кроме одного пункта "Дубликаты". Контейнер "Дубликаты" – не является контейнером, содержащим собственные экспонаты, а всего лишь содержит ссылки на экспонаты из основного списка коллекции с определенной выборкой. Т.е. "Дубликаты" следует называть, как и "Юбилейные монеты", - не контейнерами, а виртуальным списками отображения, что было реализовано в каждой ветке статистики.

Таким образом, "Юбилейные монеты" остаются там, где они есть. А "Дубликаты" уходят в статистику.

Что же делать?! Можно создать свой собственный контейнер "Дубликаты" и "Юбилейные монеты" и добавлять экспонаты напрямую туда. Статистика по отдельным контейнерам, естественно будет добавлена в скором будущем.

Хорошее предложение, мы продумаем как его лучше реализовать; думаю будет готово только в версии CollectionStudio 3.59 (после выхода 3.58).

Ну что вы!!! Ни в коем разе: все ваши предложения и замечание - по существу. Мы же создаем и развиваем наши продукты не для галочки (набор никому ненужных функций), а для живых коллекционеров, со своими требованиями и запросами, как по интерфейсу, так и функциональности. Естественно всем не угодишь, но улучшить жизнь коллекционера - мы в состоянии!

Создавая пользовательскую БД, определяя нужные мне поля, я могу выбрать, помимо их типа и названия, еще и их порядок. Тем не менее, при отображении справа (например, все заполненные поля), поля сортируются по алфавиту.

В результате, информация бессмысленно перемешивается, что-то важное теряется в середине, ненужная и техническая инфа выползает на первые строчки.

Good suggestion for small enhancement of our site, but let's do not turn our cosy site into second-grade online pages.

It will be also very good if we add usage of the filter during export: just export collectibles into external file only if they are passed filter criteria defined by user. Of course, when filter is switched off, the whole collection will be exported. as a result, we will provide in this case more export possibilities.

Но при этом будет работать весь функционал по экпорту, так что, Вы всегда сможете экспортировать свои данные во внешние форматы данных (в любое время - начиная с 10-го дня тестового периода). Сохранность данных у нас превыше всего, вне зависимости зарегестрировались вы или нет.

Да, Fast Dial, интересный плагин для Firefox-а и данное неофициальное лого может быть использовано вместо скрин-шота самого сайта. А мне вот интересно, если надпись "Collection Studio" на круге будет крутиться и синий цвет будет переливаться в ржавый, и наоборот, то получиться гипно-жаба или нет!? но трэш должен получиться...

Наш дизайнер сейчас полным ходом разрабатывает новый дизайн сайта, так как грядят большие внедрения новой функциональности сайта, => новый логотип из под его ее пера выйдет не скоро ...

Мой адаптивный вариант (как шутка):

Вы абсолютно правы, в программе есть такая возможность для быстрого выбора частично заполненного значения в поле редактирования используя выпадающий список. К сожалению, данная функциональность была добавлена только для стандартных типов коллекций. Мы добавим эту возможность и для полей пользовательских типов коллекций. Спасибо за замечание!

Насколько я понял, сортировка списка элементов коллекции по умолчанию отсутствует. Элементы выводятся в окне в порядке, в котором они были введены в БД. Критерий этот, представляется нелогичным для пользователя, поскольку место хранения записи в БД меня, как пользователя программы, интересует меньше всего и к самой коллекции также отношения не имеет.

До создания CollectionStudio, лично я учитывал свою коллекцию банкнот и монет в простой тетради в клеточку, разленееную на несколько информационных колонок. Когда у меня возникла идея написать программу для составления статистики и соответственно полностью перейти к электронному варианту учета коллекции, то естественно за основу я взял свою тетрадь. Так и получилась, что был прошит список вывода в том порядке, как он был заполнен. Но как говориться годы идут и на месте стоят нельзя!

Да, предполагается ли (в планах) многоуровневая (хотя бы 3-х уровней) сортировка? Например, сначала по государству, потом (внутри государства) по году, потом по номиналу?

Ваше предложение очень интересно и функционально; думаю данная возможность будет востребована на все 100% процентов. Мы ее попробуем реализовать для "пользовательских типов коллекций" путем добавления дополнительного параметра к полю - параметр "уровень использования в сортировке списка по умолчанию".

I can use the tools to remove my unused countries and currencies, but when i save the program, close it an restart later, all the currenties and countries are back.

You can switch off that functionality in the "Settings" window, "Document Settings" tab.

I could create one container but please advise how can I add items to the container? It seems that I can add only new items but I'd like to add items from the collection, not new ones (didn't find any information on the website, nor on help menu).

According to our current development state we have fixed a lot of bugs and have improved several major parts of the Collection Studio. The whole implementation of containers functionality was delayed due that a lot of our users request the same fixes more and more. So, we have decided to make a new release before the finish of the containers functionality. By the way, the containers functionality is a functionality of the 4-th version of CollectionStudio! So, we have just increased the minor in the version number.

Inside CollectionStudio and its database/document format all structures are ready; we just need to expand the work with collectibles in containers, such as
- automatic movement into the trash bin;
- cut/copy/paste of collectibles between containers;
- drag and drop functionality;
- operations with wish list;
- and other automation as well.

All these functions will build the 4-th version.

Hm, we have already implemented this feature in Collection Studio 3.55 (which is a latest version available for download on our site). Just open statistics "by country" with opened "image bar" and you will see something like this according to your coverage:

No, we don't drop anything!... We just did not make new CollectionStudio releases before your suggestion/reminder. During discussions, we have agreed to make a completely new architecture of this menu. And it was already implemented via new value selector for list filter to work with huge number of different values. See attached screen shot:

Serge, could you please add also Geoogle Earth as predifined link?

Yes, it will be good, but it seems that there is no possibility to start Geoogle Earth without generation of the KLM/KMZ file; therefore we need to enhance GPS field type to support such operations (right now we have possibility to run shell command, for example open parametrized link). Furthermore, inside of the KLM file Decimal Degrees (WGS84) coordinate are used, but in GPS field you can type everything. So to run correctly Geoogle Earth, we need some mechanism to detect format/type of coordinate and convert it into WGS84 standard or into other standard according to external application demands.

It looks like, we need more work around this feature to make real solution for work with coordinates inside CollectionStudio or outside.

We have released a new version. but unfortunately, an ability to use custom country images as country flag is still in progress.

With newer version CS355 (which is released some minutes ago), we have new look of the View using tool and what is most important - a new behavior of that tool: now you can switch between collectibles in the main list using keyboard cursors and/or mouse without closing View using tool window:

The new release of the CollectionStudio 3.55 will be ready soon, in the middle of July...

One small remark though: in case of coins collections (perhaps other collections too, just didn't check them all), when accessing a specific country, one can display the list of coins from that specific country, with additional information such as (just took Poland as example): "5 Grosh, Poland (1967)" (see also your screeshot named "Statistics Europe Countries with opened list of coins from Poland".

In case of custom collections, there is only the index # displayed. It might be nice if one can also see some of the custom fields in here, but letting the user decide which ones.

This feature is already implemented in CS

For all collectible types we have special property to display complete title of the collectible - Template, which can be accessed in the Collection Option window, "General" Tab page:

For coins, the default value is:

#[index] [nominal] [currency], [country] ([year])

That's why we have the following string of the collectible displayed in the list:

"5 Grosh, Poland (1967)"

This template value is used in several parts of CS to display items:

- Various item listing (such as our "Coins from Poland" list);

- In main bar when you select the item;

- In Search tool: you can specify exactly "5 Grosh, Poland (1967)" and you will get an exact match as a result.

- etc.

I guess, many users don't know much about this feature...

For custom collectibles, you can also use this variable to expand information of the collectible. Just use your XML-tag name of your collectible fields as template fields, braced with square braces. Currently, all template names should be in lower case.

For example, if you have a field "City", CollectionStudio will automatically create for this field following properties:

1. Title: "City" - will be displayed in the "Edit" window;

2. XML-tag: "City" - will be used in export/import etc;

3. SQL-field: "CS_City" - will be used only in SQL export.

You can change them as you wish:

1. Title: "Nearest City";

2. XML-tag: "City_Tag";

3. SQL-field: "CS_CITY_NAME".

According that the default "template" for custom collectible is "#[index] [title]", you can add information about city using its xml-tag in the "template" field:

#[index] [title], [city_tag]

For all type of collectible, you can use following standard fields (I hope meaning is understandable from their names): [index], [duplicates], [comments], [externalindex], [storage], [donator], [status], [quality], [quality_comments], [quality_mark], [country], [country_comments], [country_nationalbank], [country_nationalbankurl], [year], [currency], [currency_comments], [currency_nameorigin], [created], [income], [price], [realprice], [buy_comments]. Generally, it will be very good to have a faster access on collectibles comments during browsing in the list. You are right. But we think it will be better, if CollectionStudio will have Edit dialog without modal window style, it means that you can select another collectible in the list using your mouse without closing Edit dialog, therefor you will have the same tab active on it for just selected collectible. Having this feature done, we will resolve your usability request about work with comments.

From other side, talking about a new panel with the same usability style as was implemented for Collection Tree panel, we want to enhance View Using tool. Having selected an appropriate template to show the collectible you can setup your own, special view which will fit you demands. But, also it should have non modal window style in order to easy switch between collectibles.

So, I hope, in the nearest future we will have two main modes to work with collectible:

1. Edit window - tool for convenient modification of the collectible data;

2. View Using tool - window for comfortable viewing of the collectible data (with user setup possibility using modification or creation of the new viewing templates).

Thank you Barry for good suggestions; Yes, all points mentioned by you, are very important for collectors (I guess these features are also long expected ...), therefore we will try to enhance next CS release in this field too.

For any predefined "standard" collectible type, you can track up to 5 custom field of the string type. To active this feature, please use "Options" menu-item in the main program menu. On the tab "Custom fields" you can change titles for them and active or disable them separately:

At me the offer to founders of program Dates Calculator: It would be simply remarkable, if you create on the basis of Dates Calculator the simple calculator (translator) of serial numbers of banknotes. Especially it is actual for banknotes of the Arabian countries.

Thank you for a good suggestion, for proposition of a new collectors feature. But Dates Calculator is a tool for converting dates written in some "national" format. The feature you are talking about is rather different thing - because it is just only a conversion of digits from some symbolic representation into decimal numeral system using Arabic numerals. Nevertheless it might be very interested and useful tool. We will try to create this tool in nearest feature.

1-2. In CS we don't try to create exact political/geographical maps of continent, we just wanted to visualize some interested regions in the World. In our to-do list for next visualizations: Oceania, Middle East, USA, former USSR, etc. Also, we will try to add map of Central America (it was already requested by our users). Also, we think about years of the map. The map for WW1, WW2 is different to nowadays but names of countries remain the same... Now we just accumulate the data to add it in a one scope.

Oh, I think it will be too fast for new release to be ready... Generally we (developers) have agreed to make a stable new version of CS each month. I think 3.54 will be released near 25-29th March. (I think waiting more two weeks for newer features will worth it )

Yes and no. First of all we try to create a software for really convenient usage by our users, by our collectors. You know, CollectionStudio software just a tool for them, which helps to organize all processes in collecting, in their particular hobby and even little bit more. In spite of most of our developers are collectors (such as serge is amateur of old banknotes, basil is numismatist), we still can not see and foresee all possible good ways how to best organize framework in CS for collecting for thousands of collectors. For all of them. That's why we always ask them for suggestions and for their opinions. We want to accumulate all possible ways and implement most usable ways at first and of course most demanded issues too.

Yes, same situation related to coins: Standard Catalog of World Coins aka "Krause catalog" are one of many catalogs. For example, I'm using also German "Welt Munzkatalog".

However, I know what developers will answer: use custom fields for this feature.

Yes, the fast answer will be in usage of the custom fields. But here the question is more complex than it seems. We have only 5 custom fields per "standard" collectible. In our case it is stamp or Jim's coins. But there are much more than 5 fields here in list of catalogs for stamps. I'm not sure that they all are important for tracking in collection at once. Of course such information in these possible fields will be useful - but user should decide which 5.

Another solution can be in usage of the custom collectible. With user defined collectible you can track unlimited number of fields per collectible. But disadvantage of this way will be that currently all these fields will be placed on one dialog for editing/viewing purpose. It may look terrible to scroll every time to get required info...

Yes, we need a mechanism to group custom collectible fields. But at current step of the custom collectible development we can't guarantee that division of user defined fields on several tabs (groups) will be done soon. So, the final decision should be made only by user. Of course later (when this feature will be done), there will be no difference in usability for user according selected by him way.

What about me, I'll prefer custom collectible with tracking of all possible fields in spite of how many they are. Information is a first and main part of any collection!

With newer release of the CollectionStudio 3.51 a lot of our users have suggested many important changes for next Studio' releases by e-mails. Here I’ll mention some of their suggestions with some developers’ comments.

… In CS there are really useful features that I want. Also, I want to print or export to a format where I can see the pictures I’ve added for my collection. For example, export as HTML or something like that...

We will add this feature in next release. So it will be possible to export into HTML with or without images. (Separate options will be available in extensions filter during filename selection)

When I send to my friends a specific list of coins or print it for my private usage, I use “Print Screen” option, instead of the in-build Export tool, because it doesn’t support Russian letters in comments. It’s not so useful, it’s incontinent

Thank you very much for international support! We will continue to support different interface languages and support of foreign languages in any input, including mentioned here “Comments” field.

Could you please tell me how can I add flags images for countries that are not listed in the CollectionStudio ver. 3.50? I am talking about such countries as South Vietnam, French Indochina etc.

Unfortunately we have no such ability to use external flags for countries. But we will try to add it in a nearest future. With Image feature of the item in CS, we will add additional image types which will be used for such purposes.

I did a detailed test for custom collections that I use for tracking sands and below there are some my remarks and comments:

1. Custom fields not working at all for custom collections

Custom collection already uses a list of custom fields, so it doesn’t require any other (5 custom fields) fields which are available for "standard" collectibles.

2. Images properties: please allow more entries than “Face” and “Back” and “Face and back” for image type. One can add a new status for a current image, but this status disappears when trying to attribute it to other images”

3. It would be nice to have country flags also for “country fields” in custom collections, as well as for contacts;

We will add them in next release.

4. It would be nice to display more info about contacts, e.g. City, Address etc.

There are a lot of fields that are inaccessible in the main list. All of them should be used in the list – it is an our main aim for next 3.52 release.

You should use "Custom collectible" option in the CS: just add all required fields in the Document option window and setup correct information on other its tabs.

So, there are several ways to work with user defined set of items (collectibles or secondary items). Some of them are implemented, some are not and other just planned:

1. Current item (single selection) – implemented.

2. Selected items (multi selection) – planned as additional usability for virtual lists (drag-and-drop etc).

3. Filtered (selection by some criteria) – in progress

4. Virtual list via container (selection by user – our Lightboxes) - planned

5. Checked items – in discussion, suggested by Jim

6. Items in current statistics view– implemented (some sort of filtering, for example View “By country”); But with this tool we can’t run any plugin, just can make export (this is we will mark as “to be implemented”).

I think there is no need to check any items, isn’t it? It is absolutely the same as “virtual list”. And from another side, in my point of view it is user friendly to work with selection. And it is also friendly to work the whole list. The third possibility will confuse users, and of course will crush convenient user interface.

So we will have following abilities:

1. Work with single item anywhere;

2. Work with the whole collection;

3. Work with a group of collectibles (Lightboxes);

3. Work with collectibles fetched by statistics criteria;

4. Work with filtered items, either in whole collection or in Lightbox or in statistics view.

I have a collection of phone cards. Is it possible to use your program for it?

Sure, you can use latest CollectionStudio 3.48 for tracking phone cards. To do this you should select "Custom collectible" option during creation of the new document in CS using "New collection" dialog. Also, in the new version (which will be release during the next week) you will have a very good possibility to import all your data from csv or xml file (of course if you have such data for example from Excel).

The research and development of the custom collectible is already started but we are not sure that this feature will be available in the next Collection Studio release - 2.48 (approx. start of June 2008). Even if it will be released, it will be just the first version of the functionality, and it may be not so really powerful for tracking fully custom collections. In any case, let’s see what we will have. Rome was not built in one day...

Peter, what type of fields do you need? Contact item (and all other types of items including your collectible) has 5 custom fields which you can use for your own (special) data.
